Dr. Martin Van Vliet, a board certified orthodontist, was born and raised in upstate New York. He attended the State University at Albany, where he earned his BS degree. He continued his education at Farleigh Dickinson University School of Dentistry, receiving his DMD in 1975. After completing two additional years of specialty training in the field of orthodontics, Dr. Van Vliet earned his Orthodontic Certificate from the State University of New York at Buffalo. In 1988, he was elected as a Diplomate on the American Board of Orthodontics.
Dr. Van Vliet's commitment to orthodontic excellence is evidenced by his involvement with various professional organizations. Specifically, he is an active member of the following organizations: American Association of Orthodontics, Northeastern Society of Orthodontists, New York State Society of Orthodontists, American Board of Orthodontists, American Dental Association, NY State Dental Society, Ninth District Dental Society of New York and Omicron Kappa Upsilon. The American Academy of Periodontology and American Board of Orthodontists have granted Dr. Van Vliet awards for his achievements in the field.
Recognized as a leading provider of SureSmile and Invisalign appliances, Dr. Van Vliet has lectured on these topics nationally. He has integrated these state-of-the-art treatment modalities along with the most advanced 3D I-Cat imaging into his private practice to maximize treatment results and patient satisfaction.
Clearly, Dr. Van Vliet's loyalty to professional quality can also be traced to his personal values. When not working, Dr. Van Vliet enjoys spending time with his wife of over 35 years, Marita, and their two adult children, Maureen and Michael. Marita, a former high school mathematics teacher holds an MS degree in Mathematics Education. She began her volunteer fundraising efforts as Chairman of the Board of Managers of the American Cancer Society's Bergen County Division and presently sits on The Valley Hospital Auxiliary's Board.
Maureen, a licensed child and adolescent psychologist, earned her PsyD degree in 2003 from Nova Southeastern University. Dr. Maureen currently has a private practice in Ramsey, NJ.
Michael completed his MD degree from Albany Medical School in 2006. Dr. Michael is presently a Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery resident at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center.
Though Dr. Van Vliet enjoys traveling, golf and fishing, his favorite leisure activity is 'hangin out' with his Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Cody!
